Won’t pretend I know the first thing about beers and IPAs but I do know a good neighbourhood bar/taproom/micro pub when I see one 🍻

Actually criminal I hadn’t been before last weekend as it’s within walking distance from me, and although they brew their own beer on site, the bar is also fully stocked with plenty beyond beer.

They also serve a range of bar snacks, and thurs - sat often have food trucks in as well. Check their insta for each weekend line up they usually share on their stories.

Also a good spot to watch Newcastle throw away their lead, and coming into summer will be great for the world cup.

Pick up some North Shields merch while you’re there I’ve got my eye on one of the hoody’s.

When you get invited to some (new) places you never know what to expect, but Ive said it before & I'll say it again, these places are often some of the best experiences

Cafe 71 only opened at the end of April and they have a small but varied menu.
All food is prepared fresh on the day, with anything left going to a local soup kitchen/homeless shelter... such a great thing to do!

We were all set to order an item each from the menu but were then told a whole host of dishes would be brought out for us to try... so yes we really did eat pretty much everything in this post 😁
Anything we left was taken home to spread the joy #nowaste

So, as you scroll, you'll see:
Desi Breakfast
Beef Tehari
Beef Bhuna (on the bone) with Rice/Bhuna Kichuri
Chicken Panini
Lasagne
Chicken Mince Pasty
Finished us off (quite literally 😂) with French Toast & Milk cake
Obviously had to wash it down with a fav of mine, the karak chai 👌

➡️ for the menu... and as you can see, the pricing is very reasonable, both for the portion sizes and the quality!

Just tried Newcastle’s newest Turkish restaurant and it absolutely delivered 🔥🇹🇷

@kozleuk — proper authentic flavours, cooked over charcoal meats and one of the best mixed grills we’ve had recently. Located just by Central Station, the restaurant focuses on traditional Turkish charcoal cooking with a modern twist.

Started with falafel, halloumi, hummus and Turkish bread — everything tasted super fresh and full of flavour. The hummus was silky smooth and the halloumi had the perfect char.

Then came the Silk Road mixed grill and the chicken shish… honestly both mains were unreal. Smoky, juicy, perfectly grilled and packed with flavour.

Finished with the baklava dessert platter which also had a chocolate cake and ice cream — elite ending to the meal. Sweet, crispy, homemade baklava with Turkish tea balanced perfectly 👌

Great atmosphere, massive portions and proper hospitality from start to finish. Definitely adding this to my top Newcastle food spots already.

ad @summeronthesouthside has reopened in time for this weekends upcoming heat wave for a few bevs in the sun, along with a new food vendor @bagheaduk offering the spice bags everyone is loving rn!

Drink wise there is a good selection of beers on tap including some local breweries. They also do frozen cocktails which will be fab in the warmer weather, and I of course got my fave limoncello spritz.

@bagheaduk does the OG Irish spice bag with curry sauce that we'd all expect along with some twists, I really need to try their Sunday dinner spice bag served with a pot of gravy, and the dessert spice bag with biscoff and dulce le leche!

Between us we ordered the Indian spice bag and the OG. The Indian has poppadoms and is served with a pot of raita. This was really nice but we did both prefer the OG, probably because we are both obsessed with curry sauce! It's such a good portion for £10, really good value for money!
